Why am I here?
I started traveling within the U.S. in 2012 at the age of 29. I haven’t been to very many places in that time since the goal was to visit all 50 states and at least 3 foreign countries. I have been in 14 states and my U.K. visit will be the first foreign country I visit.
Most of my trips have only been a day or two with a 5 day trip to Washington D.C. and a 10 Day trip to Hawaii being the longest trips I’ve taken.
For my visit to the U.K. I decided to stay for a whole month so that I have time to settle in and see most of the things that I’m interested in without feeling rushed. This is my first foreign trip as well so I wanted to make it memorable.
I grew up reading Paddington bear books and books by Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley and H.G. Wells. I went vegan for two years and learned about Donald Watson, the founder of veganism. I’m also an “internet baby” so English engineer Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the world wide web, is a big part of my culture.
On the internet, I’ve worked with a few English and British engineers and was always extremely impressed with their skills. I’ve also met people from Ireland, Scotland, and England, although nobody from Wales yet, back in Los Angeles where I’m originally from. They have introduced me to a few local customs, though not many so I’d be able to experience them first hand if I ever decided to visit.
My itinerary includes visiting the timeless attractions such as Buckingham Palace in addition to Kensington Palace where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with Prince Harry reside. Big Ben, London Bridge, Stonehenge and Westminster Abbey are also on the agenda. Since it is my first trip, I’ll be visiting as many of the iconic U.K. sites as possible.
Trying some of the local cuisine like a Full English Breakfast and authentic Fish & Chips will allow me to cross a few items off my bucket list. I’ve had Fish & Chips in the U.S. but I’m still curious what it tastes like locally. The Britons in the U.S. say it’s not the same in Los Angeles.
Overall I’m here to have fun, visit the home of some internet friends and learn what’s its like to have a short stay in a foreign country.
